Training

General

If you are ever going to succeed at a sport then practice and training is vitally important. Badminton players need a combination of cardio-vascular and muscular endurance with coordination and racket skills. The county supports young players by teaching racket skills and tactics and strategies in game play. However, players also have to be responsible for themselves and consider the role that diet and fitness training in improving their ability.

The county is keen to ensure that over-training for younger players does not occur and that is why it works in tandem with the performance centre to schedule practices at appropriate times.

Players are expected to abide by a code of conduct when training. This can be downloaded here.

All coaches that take training sessions are suitably qualified, insured and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked so you know you are in safe hands.

How the Sessions Work

The raw squad is for players who are new to county badminton and gives players the opportunities to develop new skills in a less competitive environment.

The development squad is for players who are established within the county set-up (regardless of age) and need to refine their skills and develop match play ability.

At regular intervals the raw and development squads complete cross-over training where they get the opportunity to play against each other.
